Only limited insurance coverage is afforded to Packed by Owner containers:

A. Total Loss (missing) of an entire PBO container. In the event of loss of container and if claimed, then PROOF OF OWNERSHIP OF EACH CLAIMED ITEM, PROOF OF SHIPMENT OF INDIVIDUAL ITEMS, AND SUBSTANTIAION OF VALUE OF EACH CLAIMED ITEM will be required to support claim.

B. Damage of a PBO container but only when such damage was caused by over-turn, and/or collision of the transportation conveyance (Vehicle, aircraft, or vessel).

2. PBO Containers (and their contents) are not insured against:

A. Loss of any contents when the PBO container arrives.

B. Damage of contents except as outlined in paragraph 1.B. above

3. The above provisions are standard throughout the Insurance Industry. Even moving companies do not accept liability for PBO containers. In order to protect and benefit the property owner, the Moving Company should pack all items. Containers packed by owners are discouraged.

4. Primary reasons for the above limited coverage are that many PBO containers are improperly packed, i.e., overloaded, too much weight for the type of container used; heavy items packed on top of light items; additional reasons are:

A. PBO containers are not always of the type that have been manufactured and tested to withstand the rigors of being transported.

B. Contents have not been prepared, wrapped, and packed by professional household goods moving personnel.

C. The moving company has not verified actual contents and condition of contents.
